“basically”

 

An overused term to "dumb down" an explanation.

 

Have you ever watched or listened to someone who is trying to explain something, and he/she peppers the explanation with "basically"?

 

The reason we're listening or watching is to discover/learn something basic. But the "basically" explanation is usually not basic, and it's not the least bit helpful to understanding. It's normally just some lame language to cover up for something better to say.

 

So…get over the "basically" crutch, you people. Spend more time working on developing your [basic] language skills.
