I think that everybody loves pumpkins, mostly for the holiday or fun they represent. But why do so many people call them "punkins"?
Is that a term from childhood that didn't make it into an adult's vocabulary? Or don't some people know the difference. This autumn squash — yes, it's a squash — has an "m" and a "p" in the proper name…"puMPkin".
