Food Terminology

Squeamishness about the terms of what we eat.

A guest on this week's Public Radio "The Splendid Table" brought this idea to my attention.

She has written a book on the topic; but in short…we don't ever say that we eat "cow" or eat "pig". But we distance ourselves from the animals by calling our foods "beef" or "pork". That seemingly goes back to French history.
